Fire Safety Check List
1. Is the phone number for emergencies on your telephone?
- 911 is the number in most area's
2. Is your house number visible from the street with reflective or illuminated numbers.
3. Do you have smoke detectors installed in your home?
- Do you test them monthly
- Do you change the battery at least twice a year.
4. Does everyone know what to do in a fire emergency?
Plan two ways out. Find two ways out of every room so you can escape from a fire even if an exit is blocked
Know where to meet. Choose a meeting place outside where everyone in the house will gather after they've escaped.
Get out and Stay out! In the event of a fire leave the building immediately. Once outside, do not go back in for any reason.
Crawl low under smoke. If you encounter smoke or flames during your escape, use an alternative exit. If you have to escape through smoke, crawl on your hands and knees keeping your head near the floor where the air is cleaner.
If your clothes catch fire STOP, DROP, & ROLL - stop where you are, don't run, Drop to the ground. Cover your face with your hands and roll over and over to smother the flames.
5. Matches and Lighters are tools for adults to use. They need to be out of reach of children.
6. Fire Prevention in the Kitchen
Don't leave cooking unattended
Keep appliances clean
Wear close-fitting sleeves when you cook
Keep flammable objects clear of the stove.
